Well, after a relatively quiet year - as far as travel is concerned - with a small getaway to Bratislava and many comings and goings to Spain - thankfully there are fewer and fewer married friends - I finally go a full week somewhere far away And I don't know.

When someone first hears the name Dominican Republic, instantly think of beaches, all-inclusive hotel and now. And in part, they are right. The prices of packages All inclusive they are impossible to overcome. We look at different alternatives from Europe and already only on flights we spent more than buying the whole package leaving from Madrid. My friend Alex, a temporary resident in Bogotá, is the only one who had to buy everything separately.

Despite going to one of the hotels in the famous Punta Cana, we are going to rent a car so we can move as much as possible through a country that houses some 15 National Parks, the highest mountains - up to 2150 meters - of the Antilles, desert areas, jungles, incredible underwater life - including the mating of humpback whales in December and January - and which gives rise to many activities such as mountain biking, rafting, trekking for several days in its mountain ranges, snorkeling, diving with cylinders, kayaking and many more.

In addition - let's not forget it - it is the house of the fantastic Barceló and Brugal rums and I can assure you that we will try them well tested.

We also plan to visit the architectural wonders of the colonialist era that can be admired in Santo Domingo, in addition to the natural beauties of Samana and Saona Island.

It will be a bit strange to arrive with a backpack to a place where there will be a large number of newlyweds and families enjoying a quiet holiday at their resort, but with the mentality we carry it will not be difficult for us to make a trip different from that of most Tourists from this area.

We will leave in a couple of weeks from Madrid and while I will tell you how the preparations are going and curious or unknown things that I am already finding while I am informed here and there.

Counting the days!.
