A helicopter ride through Dubai, an oasis of steel and concrete in the desert (video)

When a city between the sea and the desert has 18 skyscrapers of more than 300 m high and the tallest building in the world, it is an invitation to see it from heights that exceed them, making a Dubai helicopter tour.

But what is lost to most tourists to visit Dubai? Well, basically, your airport is a must for those who fly from Europe to Asia with Emirates, the flag carrier, and some other airlines.

This logistical requirement causes many passengers, as was my case on a flight between Madrid and Kuala Lumpur, to face from a couple of hours to almost half a day waiting for their next flight.

In these cases, and better than staying at the Dubai airport, there are much more interesting options to take advantage of the time. From a simple tour of Dubai by tourist bus, to a private tour in Spanish or a full tour, you can take advantage of every minute in the city, even if this is not the final destination of your trip.

In the case of my experience flying by helicopter over Dubai, everything started with a 14-hour stopover between two flights, as it landed at 07:15 am from Madrid Airport and at 9:15 pm it took off for Kuala Lumpur Airport.

I told you that my ticket did not qualify for the Dubai Connect visit program, so I had to look for alternatives to take advantage of the time, not to kill it, in Dubai. One of them was to visit the Burj Khalifa, the largest building in the world (here you can buy the entrance to the viewpoints of the 124th and 125th floors or also the entrance to those two floors and the exclusive at 148).

After seeing Dubai from the tallest building in the world, I took bus 81 with its obligatory air conditioning and left me at the “Dubai Police Academy” stop. At the entrance, after telling them that I had hired a helicopter tour with Civitatis, they came for me in a car from HeliDubai, the company that makes the helicopter ride through Dubai (which you can book from this link)

Since the tours are reserved for a specific time and you have to arrive a while earlier, I settled in the waiting room, renewing liquids with free cold water. After a few minutes, all of us who were going to do the helicopter ride were called to a room to receive safety information and about the tour itself.

When the helicopter of the previous flight landed and its passengers descended from it, it was our turn to leave for the track to take over and take a helicopter tour over Dubai, from which I leave this video of my experience.

As you can see in it, flying by helicopter over Dubai allows you to see closely and from the air icons such as the Burj Al Arab hotel, the most luxurious in the world, the artificial archipelago The Palm Jumeirah or the skyscrapers of Dubai, with the 828 m of Burj Khalifa dwarfing the rest of buildings.

If you like the idea of flying by helicopter over Dubai, keep in mind that there are various tours depending on their duration and, obviously, where you will see more things the longer you are in the air.

Flying by helicopter is an exciting experience for any traveler, as we have verified when we have done a helicopter tour over Barcelona or taken a helicopter ride over Gibraltar.

Now we add the experience of flying by helicopter over Dubai, after making a visit to the Burj Khalifa, and despite the fog caused by the sand in suspension, it is impressive to see that urban center full of skyscrapers that emerges from nowhere in the desert.

This is the departure point for HeliDubai flights on Google Maps:

Access from the center of Dubai can be done by public bus or Metro transportation to the Mall of The Emirates (Mall of the Emirates). If you come from the airport, I recommend the use of the Metro.

In either case, Metro or bus, you will have to travel a few hundred meters to the door of the Dubai Police Academy, so be sure to wear a cap to protect yourself from the sun.
