Tall Ships Race in La Coruña

A Coruña is surrounded by ocean by three of its four sides and it can happen to you that, if you visit it in summer, you will find the Tall Ships Races regatta. Until today this had happened eight times, the first one in 1958. But this year we have not been able to see any edition, but that of its 60th anniversary.

The city that looks out over the Atlantic has put on its best clothes to receive the old Cutty Sark regatta. Here these days you have breathed sea, you take the nautical and sailor songs are danced, among others by Enrique Iglesias that are part of what, inevitably, brings us every summer. The important is celebrate and live the atmosphere that this very important event brings to the city and for which the party program has been conveniently adapted.

Ambience Puerto Coruña Tall Ships Races

Wednesday was the central arrival day and the wind was blowing strong - force 7, brushing the storm - in the surroundings of the Tower of Hercules. This lighthouse, the only Roman that is still in operation, welcomes the many tourists who visit it these days at the rhythm of bagpipes. But after a very quiet season the sea whipped with some intensity the rocks around the Sculptural Park.

Here, precisely at the foot of this light tower arranged to guide ships at the entrance to the city, the Aegean Sea tanker ran aground in December 1992, covering its entire population of black smoke and demonstrating the dangerous conjunction between tankers and their safety measures and the coasts to which they approach.
