Last year I spent a week in the south east of Sicily. The so-called Val di Noto travels villages of great beauty and curious baroque architecture. Not surprisingly, UNESCO added to its list the cities of Ragusa Ibla, Scicli and Modica as world heritage sites. A tourist train runs through the valley approaching these lovely places.

Most tourists pass by and that adds even more charm to this authentic Sicilian area full of good cuisine, beaches, culture and lifestyles unperturbed in the modern era.
